Greece's Alexis Tsipras urges 'bold' moves at EU summit
BBC News - Mar 19, 2015
The Greek prime minister has called for "bold initiatives" to reinvigorate his country's economy as EU leaders gather for a summit in Brussels.
Alexis Tsipras is meeting with the leaders of Germany, France and the EU institutions.
EU leaders also agreed to link lifting sanctions against Russia over its role in the Ukraine crisis to the full implementation of a ceasefire deal.
The move effectively extends the sanctions until the end of 2015.
This is because last month's ceasefire deal in Minsk, Belarus, envisages Ukraine regaining full control over its eastern border with Russia - parts of which are being held by separatist rebels - by the end of the year.
"Our common intention is very clear - to maintain the sanctions until Minsk is fully implemented," European Council President Donal Tusk said at a news conference.
Ukrainian PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk had earlier urged the EU to stand firm on sanctions against Moscow.
